Create a black and white colour combination photograph in Photoshop

Do you like Black and White pictures in the world full of colour? Black and White pictures express something else than other colourful pictures. It expresses something stronger. What about black and white picture with a tint of colour? The viewer focuses in on the texture and contrast of the image. To make such pictures you use designing tools, tools such as Adobe Photoshop. We all have heard about it, Adobe Photoshop is one the best editing tool. And today we are going to create a black and white colour combination picture.

To make such photographs you have to understand the concept of layers in Photoshop. Black and white pictures don't take time to be created.

Following are the steps for creating such photographs-

• Open an image in Adobe Photoshop
• Click the Black & White icon in the Adjustments panel.
• Now choose Layer, then choose New Adjustment Layer, and then Black & White.
• In the New Layer dialogue box, type a name for the adjustment layer and then click OK.

Photoshop applies a default grey-scale conversion.

• Choose a Black & White preset from the Preset menu in the Properties panel.
• In the Properties panel, manually adjust the conversion using the colour sliders, apply an Auto conversion or select a previously saved a custom mix.

Select a predefined grey-scale mix or a previously saved mix. To save a mix, choose Save Black & White Preset from the panel menu.

• Auto

Sets a grey-scale mix based on the colour values of the images, maximizing the distribution of grey values. The Auto mix often produces excellent results or can be used as the starting point for tweaking grey values using the colour sliders.

• Colour sliders

Adjust the grey tones of specific colours in an image. Drag a slider left to darken or right to lighten the grey tones of an image's original colour.

To adjust a particular colour component, select the On-image adjustment tool and then click in the image. Drag left or right to modify the colour slider for the predominant colour at that location, making it darker or brighter in the image.

Click the Reset button to reset all colour sliders to the default grey-scale conversion.

• Preview

Deselect to view the image in its original colour mode.

• To apply a colour tone, select Tint. To fine-tune the tint colour, click the colour swatch to open the Colour Picker.

*Following are the other ways you can make the black and white with a colour tint picture-

Bring back colour to an area of the photo-

• In the Layers panel, make sure the white layer mask thumbnail on the Black & White adjustment layer is selected. The white border around that thumbnail indicates it's selected.
• Brush over the parts of the photo where you want to bring back colour. You're not actually painting on the photo; you're painting with black on the adjustment layer mask, which hides the adjustment and lets the original colour show through.

• When all the work is done, choose File, then Save to save your picture. And enjoy.
